June is National Indigenous History Month

“The month of June serves as a positive opportunity to highlight and share the positive contributions made every day by First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples” (FNMIEAO).

The Honorable Murray Sinclair -- Mazina Giizhik -- asks us to focus on " Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect," something we strive to do, and continually reflect upon.

Ways that ALCDSB is working to support Indigenous Peoples Month this June:

  • creating spaces to center and highlight Indigenous resources, texts, authors, change makers, influencers etc. at the front of our school entrances, learning commons, and gathering spaces
  • continuing to focus on Indigenous Influencers in our curriculum
  • using staff meetings as a platform for celebrating and highlighting the successes of Indigenous Education in our schools
